Private Mt. Horaiji Tour in Mie, Japan - Explore the Holy Mountain on Your Own Schedule

Explore the legends and landscapes of Mt. Horaiji in Mie on a guided walk that blends cultural storytelling with outdoor adventure: you’ll follow a rugged cliff path to panoramic views, visit the mysterious shrine of a powerful samurai, and enjoy an included bento lunch while taking in the scenery. After lunch you’ll hike to a lookout through native forest, descend historic stone steps and detour through a quiet part of the temple grounds, all while your guide shares the centuries-old tales that made Mt. Horaiji a sacred pilgrimage site. On Saturdays the itinerary visits a dramatic nearby river instead of one lookout because of public transport, and on cloudy or lightly rainy days the mountain’s atmosphere is equally evocative though one lookout may be skipped for safety. This experience is ideal for anyone looking for a mix of history, nature and local insight when booking tours and activities in Mie.

Summary: The tour with Yuko and Alex was the highlight of my Japanese holiday. As part of my package they organised for me to stay at a local onsen hotel in a stunning location with authentic Japanese meals. The hiking was great, the scenery was beautiful and their knowledge of the history and culture of the area is exceptional. I learnt a lot and it was the most engaging and enjoyable experience I had during my trip.
