Kayaking in Clare

Summary: We've been coming to Kilkee for years but had somehow never tried the kayaking tour with Nevsail. I can't believe we waited so long! It was my first time kayaking, so I was a bit nervous, but our guide Charlie was brilliant. He explained everything clearly before we set off, made sure we felt safe and confident, and was great craic throughout the tour. My husband and I hired a double kayak, which was so much fun! All the equipment was provided, including wetsuits, and although the tour was advertised as 1½ hours, we were out for almost 2 hours because the sea was so calm. That meant Charlie was able to bring us into several sea caves, which were absolutely stunning and definitely the highlight of the trip. As we paddled along the coast towards the Diamond Rocks, he also shared lots of interesting information about the area, which made the experience even better. The scenery was incredible, with crystal-clear water, jellyfish drifting below us, and colourful sea anemones covering the cave walls. Seeing them up close was amazing and it's such a unique way to experience Kilkee from a completely different perspective. It was excellent value for money, and I'd recommend it to couples, solo travellers and families with older children. I probably wouldn't recommend it for very young children, as it can get a bit choppier near the mouth of the bay and you do need enough strength to keep paddling. A couple of tips: bring dry clothes and a towel because you will get wet! I'd also recommend wearing swim shoes or flip-flops, as there are weever fish in the sand and they're more comfortable than bare feet when you're bracing yourself against the kayak. A lovely touch was that Charlie offered to take photos throughout the trip with his own camera and sent them to us afterwards, so we could enjoy the experience without worrying about our phones. If you do bring your own camera or phone, make sure it's in a proper waterproof case—but remember, if you end up in the water, there's no guarantee it'll survive! We absolutely loved every minute of it and would do it again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend, especially if you've never kayaked before!

Summary: 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids went on a kayaking tour with Sean in Nevsail Kilkee over the weekend. Great experience. Sean was very friendly and informative. He brought us along the caves on both sides of the bay and we finished up with a swim at a natural rock pool called Tuckers, before heading back to shore. Highly recommended!
