Summary: This tour is incredible. Do not miss it. If you have to walk from Timbuktu it will still be worth it. Staff and experience could not be better.

Summary: You are greeted by the most lovely people! They inform you of all you will experience and beyond. Drinks and snacks provided before hand. The experience itself was a once in a lifetime experience. I chose to swim and I couldn’t keep my hands still and eyes away, the bioluminescence is other worldly. Highly recommend going with the kayak experience!!

Know more about Playa Santa Teresa

Bioluminescence here is a year-round natural light show caused by algae in the gulf that emit blue-green sparkles when disturbed. Kayaking lets you view the phenomenon from above and close up, so you can paddle through glowing water and see the algae cling to your paddle or hands, creating a magical experience near Playa Santa Teresa.
The bioluminescent algae emit wavelengths in the blue to green range, so patches can appear bluish or greenish depending on algae concentration. When disturbed, they create sparkling trails in the water and brief glows on paddles, hands, or floating debris near Playa Santa Teresa.
Focus on shallow areas and places where your paddle or hands disturb the water; strong patches of algae will glow for many seconds and fish fleeing in shallow bays will leave bright, trailing sparks that look like underwater fireworks.
Kayaking gives you a close, elevated vantage point to disturb the water gently, which triggers millions of algae to flash blue or green. Paddling over shallow areas can also startle fish, producing underwater 'fireworks' and trails of glowing 'fairy dust' that are especially vivid from a kayak.
Yes - this part of the Nicoya Peninsula is one of the few places where bioluminescence can be seen year-round, offering reliable opportunities for night kayaking and Water-Based nature tours around Playa Santa Teresa.
While you may glimpse faint glows from shore, kayaking is one of the best ways to see the full bioluminescent effect because it allows you to move over the water, disturb algae directly, and view the blue-green sparkles and trails up close.
