Summary: Our small group was accompanied by Lance, a guide with an obvious passion for food and lots of knowledge that he is very happy to share. We explored one of the local markets where we learnt more about the local ingredients. Then we had a small snack break with fruits and tea, after which we got into the cooking. We cooked a total of 5 dishes, a mix of sides and mains as well as vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The cooking itself was a lot of fun, and the end results were super yummy. The kitchen was well organised and the chef had a lot of the finicky chopping already done for us (though I would’ve loved to do it myself). I can’t recommend this experience enough - you can learn a lot in a short period of time and leave with new skills too.

Summary: I joined the cooking class with market visit today, and it was truly one of the highlights of my trip to China. The entire experience was perfectly organized, authentic, and full of flavor — both literally and culturally! Lance is an exceptional guide and instructor: professional, passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable about Sichuan cuisine. During the market visit, he introduced us to local ingredients and traditions with enthusiasm and insight, making every stop fascinating and enjoyable. The cooking class itself was wonderful — well-structured, hands-on, and full of useful tips that only someone who genuinely loves what they do could share. The dishes we prepared were delicious and gave a real taste of Chengdu’s rich culinary heritage. Lance also has a great talent for creating a warm, friendly atmosphere, making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to discover the true heart of Sichuan cuisine in an engaging and authentic way.
